Sleepless Arizona 2011

A Camp Out to End Homelessness

Have you ever asked yourself, ‘what can I do to help the homeless in Arizona?’

Phoenix Rescue Mission’s first annual Sleepless Arizona is your chance to be part of the solution. Similar to a Walkathon, participants in Sleepless Arizona collect sponsorship donations from friends and family. A $25 registration fee is counted towards the $100 minimum fundraising goal per sleeper.

What does homelessness look like? Usually we think of homelessness as a man lying on a cardboard box. You may think of a bag lady pushing a shopping cart. What about a family sleeping in their car? Could the man bagging your groceries who sleeps on a friend’s couch meet the definition of homelessness? Homelessness does not discriminate – it affects more people than any of us realize.

In Arizona homelessness continues to climb, with 14,677 people reported homeless, according to a 2009 Arizona Coalition to End Homelessness survey. The statistic highlights the growing problem of homelessness in the state, which is up by more than 1,500 people in the last year alone. The current economic climate requires the Phoenix Rescue Mission to serve more people with fewer resources. But you can help change that by participating in the first annual Sleepless Arizona camp out.

Please help end homelessness in Arizona and Join us for a night that will leave you Sleepless!
