Welcome to Saskatoon Dragon Boat Festival 2010

CHALLENGE YOURSELF:

The grip on your paddle tightens; you can feel your heart pounding. Anticipation…the horn sounds and a flurry of activity starts, the splash of paddles hitting the water, the drummer yelling, crowds cheering from the shore. The drummer urges the team to paddle harder, faster! Your team crosses the finish line; you feel a mixture of satisfaction and exhaustion. But, the true winner in this race is the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan which benefits from your support and participation.

The Saskatoon Dragon Boat Festival – presented by SaskPower, is roaring back to town! It will take place over two days at the end of July with practices starting approximately two weeks prior. The festival will be filled with activities for the entire family including entertainment and food and beverage services.

Team building is at the heart of a good dragon boat race as 22 people work together in synchronization, paddling towards a common goal. The 2010 festival is in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan through the Dragon Boat Pledge Program.

EVERY PLEDGE MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Every dollar counts

When you gather pledges to support the Heart and Stroke Foundation, you are helping fund vital research, support health education and advocate for change. Here are just some of the ways that each and every donation helps:

  • Every $3 donated allows one person to take the Heart&Stroke Risk Assessment and receive a customized action plan for healthy living that includes practical online tips, tools, recipes and other resources to help reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.
  • $25... provides three Heart&Soul manuals for parents of children born with congenital heart disease to help them provide the most caring and effective homecare possible for their sons and daughters.
  • $50... covers the cost of printing 625 brochures on the warning signs of stroke, which, if identified and treated immediately, can make all the difference in survival and recovery.
  • 90 donations of $50... allow a Saskatchewan university student to set out on a heart and stroke research career. Summer student research grants are focused on projects to better understand how heart disease and stroke impact Saskatchewan people, and will help keep bright young minds here.
  • 11 donations of $500... will fund one year of a three-year research project by Dr. Phyllis Patterson a Saskatoon researcher studying the link between nutrition and stroke, opening the door for a new way to prevent stroke’s devastating impact.
  • 18 donations of $1,000... support the work of a master’s student working in the area of heart disease or stroke research for one year.
  • 30 donations of $5,000…allows renowned investigator Dr. Salim Yusuf to determine the impact of all forms of tobacco use, including chewing tobacco, on the risk of heart attack.
