American Heart Association: Life's Simple 7

At the American Heart Association, we know that cardiovascular diseases including stroke impact far more people than just those who suffer from these diseases. As the No. 1 killer in the U.S. and even the world, cardiovascular diseases impact millions of families, friends and loved ones. Embracing a healthier life is one of the best gifts we can give to ourselves and those we love. We want to help you and millions of others make these lifestyle shifts become the “new normal.” We are partnering with you, to build a healthier, stronger legacy one heart at a time.

Remember, you can stop heart disease before it even starts. Start small. And keep it simple. Make one change today and then you’re ready to make another. Before you know it you’ve stopped making poor choices, and started making life choices! So join us and make a new life resolution: Let’s all take the simple seven to heart.

About the Start! Heart Walk

The Bay Area Start! Heart Walk is a 5K fitness walk and a 1 Mile Survivor Route that brings together companies to fight heart disease and stroke. Although you can register to walk as an individual, we recommend you join a team at your company as it provides friendly competition and a reason to get fit and train for the walk. It also creates a reason to band together with your co-workers for a common cause.

The Benefits of Walking
In addition to raising money for lifesaving research and education programs, you’ll also help your company and co-workers live happier, healthier, longer lives.
  • Increase company pride. Surveys show that over 90 percent of employees feel proud if their company supports an important outside cause.
  • Build skills. Volunteer work can help you hone skills that you can also use at home and on the job. These include leadership, decisionmaking, problem-solving, time management, negotiating, networking and goal-setting.
  • Shine in the community. Supporting the Start! Heart Walk can help enhance community relations. Many companies print T-shirts for their walkers to display their spirit and raise their company profile.
  • Give a boost. Giving back to the community can also boost your productivity, office morale, job satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Promote health. It's a great way to let your bosses know you care about your health and wellness.
Whether you think your company should become a sponsor, have an area at the walk, or get a team involved, our local team members are experts at getting you started.
