Founded in 1989 by Anthony Kennedy Shriver, Best Buddies International is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization that has grown from one original chapter at Georgetown University to more than 1,300 middle school, high school and college campuses internationally. Our organization is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

March is Best Buddies Month, a time to celebrate the friendships and jobs formed through Best Buddies Programs. In 2009, hundreds of Best Buddies Miami participants and local businesses teamed up with our office to carry out Best Buddies Day. Children, teens and adults with and without intellectual disabilities participated and enjoyed the food, fun and festivities. Best Buddies Day is an annual event which represents the culmination of the dozens of friendships and job placements made through the many Best Buddies programs.
