2017 Belize Dance Marathon
Fighting for thousands of children
who have no other champions
Right here and right now, we can fight for children in Belize who can't go to high school without our help. As Drake students - and as Americans - we have the ability to change the lives of thousands of struggling children whose biggest dream is going to high school and becoming someone in life.
Poverty and hardship are what many children in Belize live with every day. A huge percentage of families can't afford the $200 it costs for a high school student's books and uniforms a year. Tens of thousands of children are denied high school educations, and a way out of poverty.
We will be the champions for these children, who wrote to us:
" I am not able to buy my books nor uniforms without this scholarship. I am living with my grandparents. My mom gave me away at birth. My grandparents struggle to maintain me since they are old. At times we barely have enough to eat. I am living in a wooden old house. We don't have a lot of assets. We have three chickens, four dogs, and a home garden. It hurts me to watch my grandparents struggle. Life is not sweet, but I still have hope things will change. I believe I will have to make the change. I want to be a doctor." - 15-year-old boy
"I am not a healthy person, but I really want to get an education. I was born with the HIV virus, me and my sister. Although we are sick we still want to get an education because however long we live we cannot be a burden. My parents died when I was 12. I want to learn the computer trade so I can show and help others with computer work. Help other schoolchildren with homework. This is my goal in life. To help others if I can." - 16-year-old boy.
WE WILL FIGHT FOR THESE CHILDREN, AND WE WILL SEND THEM TO HIGH SCHOOL - AND 200 MORE JUST LIKE THEM WHO NEED US
BECAUSE THAT IS WHO WE ARE AS HUMAN BEINGS, THAT IS WHO WE ARE AS DRAKE STUDENTS, AND THIS FIGHT IS ON!
