My name is Ann Humphries and Jazmin is my 18 year old daughter who was diagnosed with Chiari I Malformation in August 2012, as she started the 8th grade. Her Chiari was found during a spinal and brain MRI, ordered by her orthopedic surgeon, due to her scoliosis. Chiari is a herniation of the hindbrain, causing crowding, with multiple complex symptoms. In her case Jazmin suffered from headaches, dizziness, balance issues and more. In March of 2012, seven months after diagnosis, she had brain surgery to try to alleviate some of her symptoms. Unfortunately, it was not successful and Jazmin's symptoms became worse and worse. She eventually found out she has several related conditions and is looking at having more surgeries in the future. Jazmin is a strong advocate for herself when seeing her doctors and raising awareness for her medical conditions.
We are holding a fundraising event to benefit American Syringomyelia and Chiari Alliance Project (a.k.a ASAP.org). ASAP is the oldest organization of its kind supporting research, education, and awareness of these disorders.
On the day of this event we will have food, raffles and a silent auction.
Various fundraising events will take place up to the walk including local restaurants. Dates will be announced as they are scheduled.
You can help others like Jazmin and her sister Alexia who are living with Chiari and/or Syringomyelia. Your time, donation and participation at our walk is invaluable.
