Team Spotlight: Landen's Superheroes

LandenMeet Landen, age 5, one of the youth heroes for the 2013 San Antonio Arthritis Walk.

Landen was born on May 26, 2007 in San Antonio. He’s been on a mission to move ever since he could crawl. The night before his first arthritis flare up he played soccer and golf. The next morning we knew that something was wrong when Landen did not greet us with his usual wake up jump on the bed. He was in his room with a painfully swollen knee.

We took Landen to the hospital. After 8 hours of poking, proding, and tests, the orthopedic doctor told us that it appeared Landen had J.A. Not knowing where to turn we went home and researched JA. Soon we contacted Dr. Lisa Petiniot in Austin, TX. Her knowledge and experience helped our family start to fight.

In the coming months Landen had three injections on his knees and was put on medication to help his soreness. After ten months Dr Petiniot decided to put Landen on Enbril. Despite the needles and medicine Landen has showed great determination and spirit. With physical therapy and medication Landen still loves to play soccer and golf and is an unstoppable force.

Thank you for participating in the 2013 San Antonio Arthritis Walk, the signature fundraising event for the Arthritis Foundation. Every year, people across the country move together to celebrate those who are making a positive impact on the lives of people living with arthritis.

More than just an event, Arthritis Walk is a celebration of year-round movement. It is building awareness for this debilitating disease and raising necessary funds to drive arthritis research, education and life improvement programs; it also continues the Arthritis Foundation’s search to find a cure to the nation’s leading cause of disability.
