Walk for Babies was created after a little baby girl named Amelia spent her first 26 days in the NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital. Her family was so grateful for the extraordinary care Amelia received, that they set an ambitious goal of raising $1,000,000 for the NICU in Akron.
That was over 5 years ago, in 2007. Today Walk for Babies is well on its way to reaching that goal, with over 1500 participants last year alone, and raising over $400,000 so far.
The 7th annual Walk for Babies will be held at the Akron Zoo on Sunday September 22nd, 2013.
This one mile, non-competitive family friendly walk starts in the zoo parking lot, and winds throughout the exhibits, ending in the Zoo Gardens. Lunch is provided, many generous raffle items are available, and inspiring speakers help make this a day to remember.
The goal of Walk for Babies is to raise money and awareness about the NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital so that children like Amelia will continue to get the medical help and support they so desperately need. Then they too, like Amelia, will be able to join in Walk For Babies to give back to the hospital that gave them so much.
Get started today by creating your team and asking friends, family, neighbors and colleagues to sponsor you or to join your team to help the cause. 100% of the money teams raise goes directly to the NICU at Akron Children’s Hospital.
The 2013 Walk For Babies goal is $115,000.
