Be a part of the run for her® 5k Run & Friendship Walk and fight ovarian cancer head on no matter where you live! Do it for the "Her" in your life.

For the second year in a row, run for her® reached its goal of registering participants in all 50 states. This year we're striving for a team in each state! Take a look at our Sleepwalkers from around the country and around the globe!

Message from Dr. Beth Karlan

Why Support Sleepwalkers?  Across America?

What if you, your wife, mother or sister were experiencing symptoms of ovarian cancer? Would you know what to do?

Ovarian cancer is the deadliest of all the women's cancers. The majority of women who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer only live up to five years after their diagnosis. But if it is detected earlier, most of these women could live normal lives.

There is no clinical screening for ovarian cancer. Our best way to improve health and save lives is by increasing research, education, and prevention related to ovarian cancer. Cedars-Sinai Women's Cancer Program (WCP) at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute is one of the nation's leaders in this effort.

run for her® is asking you, wherever you live to take action. Start the run for her® movement in your city to empower all women to know more, do more and learn more. Spread the run for her® message and help empower the "Her" in your life. Together, we can raise the profile of this disease and stop its deadly effects. Proceeds from run for her® help make this work possible.

The programs of WCP target research, clinical care, advocacy and education. No matter where you live, your support of run for her® is helping to end cancer as a threat to women around the world.

It's Easy to Become a Sleepwalker

You can support run for her® in your local city. Just register as an individual, start a team or join a team online to become a virtual walker.

As a Sleepwalker, you can choose the scope of participation that works for you. You can virtually walk from your own couch, walk to your local coffee shop or organize your own team walk in your local park or neighborhood to honor your commitment to the "Her" in your life and stop ovarian cancer.

You can also hold a contest with friends, family members and co-workers in other cities or states. Or, ask your company to sponsor teams and promote Sleepwalkers Across America in their local or national markets.

The key is to keep it fun, keep it flexible and always keep the commitment to finding a cure for ovarian cancer at the forefront! Keep us updated on your Sleepwalker activities by emailing photos, videos, and/or stories to

1. How many participants make up a Sleepwalker team?

A Sleepwalker team is 2 or more people.

2. Is there anything I am required to do as a Sleepwalker other than register?

A Sleepwalker is not required to do anything. run for her®, however, does encourage Sleepwalkers to start or join a team in your state. run for her® also encourages Sleepwalkers to go for a walk in your neighborhood, see a movie, have coffee with friends, or do any activity of your choosing in your run for her® t-shirt on November 13th or any day you choose. Let us know how you participated in Sleepwalkers Accross America? by emailing run for her® a photo, video to run for her® will post your photo, video, or story on the Sleepwalkers Across America? website to show the world how you are helping to raise money and awareness for ovarian cancer!

3. Is it better to donate $35 or register as a Sleepwalker?

Both are great and very much appreciated! We encourage you to register as a Sleepwalker. Every Sleepwalker gets a run for her® shirt and socks in the mail and information on ovarian cancer. We also have a great Sleepwalker website to make Sleepwalkers feel fully integrated and part of run for her®. This provides an opportunity to educate more people worldwide about the disease. Since there is no reliable test to detect ovarian cancer, awareness is vital in saving lives. By registering as a Sleepwalker you will help us spread the message about ovarian cancer. If you prefer, however, to not receive a shirt, socks, and information on ovarian cancer, then we suggest you donate the $35 instead. You can't go wrong either way!

4. My friend has formed a team for event day. She wants me to join her team as a Sleepwalker, but I live out of state. Is it better for me to join her team or form my own Sleepwalker team?

Form your own team out of state! run for her® has a goal to register at least one Sleepwalker Team in every state in order to educate people around the nation and the world on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. It's easy to start a team in your state and run for her® is here to help you every step of the way. Recruit friends, family, and co-workers in your state to join your team too! For questions and more information, contact Marina Gudelman at or 323-866-6250.

5. Is Sleepwalkers Across America? the same event as run for her®?

Yes, Sleepwalkers Across America is one part of run for her®. In 2006, the run for her Executive Committee created "Sleepwalkers" which is anyone who can't attend run for her because they have other plans, leave far away, or just don't want to get out of bed. In 2009, the run for her Committee expanded the concept of Sleepwalkers and launched the Sleepwalkers Across America program. The purpose of the Sleepwalkers Across America program is to engage and educate people nationally and internationally about ovarian cancer. In 2011, run for her® had registered Sleepwalkers in all 50 states and 5 countries! Through Sleepwalkers Across America, the person who likes to sleep in on Sundays can participate in run for her®, those who have other plans on November 11th can participate in run for her®, and for those that live far away Sleepwalkers Across America allows you to participate in run for her® no matter where you live. Sleepwalkers Across America is a community of people around the nation and the world virtually coming together to raise awareness and money for ovarian cancer!
