Fundraising for the Richmond SPCA by participating in the Dog Jog and 5K Run is easy, fun and lifesaving. Your work to secure donations to your page (or your team page) will help the Richmond SPCA save thousands of homeless pets in our community, and can win you amazing prizes!

Proceeds from this event support the lifesaving programs and services of the Richmond SPCA, a non-profit humane society that is building a more compassionate community through the provision of programs of education, adoption, rehabilitation and spay/neuter. We save the lives of more than 4,000 homeless animals each year and care for approximately 350 cats and dogs daily. Our federal tax identification number is 54-0506328.

Here are examples of the lifesaving services the money you raise can provide:
  • • $25 provides two soft beds for pets awaiting adoption
  • • $50 provides two spay or neuter surgeries
  • • $100 provides bottle feeding for one infant kitten for six weeks
  •  $150 provides heartworm treatment for one dog
  • • $250 provides lifesaving treatment for one puppy with Parvovirus or chemotherapy for one dog
  •  $500 provides treatment for upper respiratory infection for 5 kittens
  •  $1,000 provides IV fluids to 15 pets for one week

Fundraising Tips

Register. The easiest way to register to participate is to sign up online. You will automatically be set up with a personal fundraising web page. You may also register offline using our paper form if you prefer.

Tell your story. Personalize your fundraising web page with a personal photo and be sure to tell your page visitors why the cause of helping homeless dogs, cats, kittens and puppies is important to you. Use this space to ask your friends, coworkers and family to make a donation in your (or your pet's) honor.

Get the word out. Use the email and social media tools available in your HQ to ask friends and family to support your participation in the Dog Jog and 5K Run. Consider sending updates to your current and potential supporters to keep them in the loop about your fundraising success! Be sure to like and tag our Dog Jog and 5K Run Facebook page, and use the hashtag #DogJog to help spread the word on Twitter and Instagram. Download our Dog Jog and 5K Run cover photo for your Facebook page!

Ask for support. Get creative - there are countless ways for you to ask your community for their support! A few examples are listed below:
• In exchange for a donation to your fundraising page, you could: babysit, drive a friend to the airport, bake a batch of cookies, shovel snow or cut grass.
• Does your company have a matching gift program? Ask your employer to match what you raise.
• Request that your friends contribute to your fundraising goal instead of purchasing a gift for your upcoming birthday, anniversary or other special occasion.
• Send letters via snail mail to friends and family and provide them with a stamped envelope with your address on it - it's so easy they'll have to donate!

• Give something up - a movie, manicure or dinner at an expensive restaurant - and contribute the money you saved to your fundraising goal.

Join or create a team. Teamwork puts the FUN in fundraising! Put together a team of coworkers, friends or family and fundraise together for the Dog Jog and 5K Run. Already registered, but want to create a or join a team? No problem! Call Laurie Mavica at 804-521-1318 or email lmavica@richmondspca.org for help.
