Sophia Osorio Juvenile Idiopahtic Arthritis (JIA)
Sophia Osorio was diagnosed with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) three years ago when she was 7-years-old. After waking up to Sophia screaming in pain during the night, her parents rushed her to the ER for what would become days of testing. After one week, they were given the news that would forever change their and Sophia’s lives. Sophia had arthritis. Her Mom couldn’t get past the fact that she always thought of arthritis as an older person’s disease and felt lost. After connecting with the Arthritis Foundation and receiving Sophia’s Power Pack, they began to feel hope and realized they were no longer alone. Sophia has become a beaming light at Camp Acheaway and she and her family have started educating those around them about Sophia’s journey with arthritis. Sophia is thrilled to be this year’s youth honoree and hopes you’ll join her on May 7 to support her and other Walk participants as they prove they are stronger than arthritis!
