About Run for Her®

Where the Money Goes

Run for Her is helping to sustain the work of the Women’s Cancer Program, one of the most comprehensive gynecologic cancer programs in the nation. This work includes:

  • Clinical care in the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute
  • Laboratory-based research conducted in the Burns and Allen Research Institute
  • The ability to provide innovative therapeutic clinical trials for women with gynecologic cancers
  • Genetic testing and counseling
  • Research to improve early detection of cancers through our Gilda Radner Hereditary Cancer Program
  • The Women’s Cancer Program biorepository — one of the country’s largest and most comprehensive “tissue banks” focused on women’s cancers

Your involvement with Run for Her will help the Women’s Cancer Program build upon lifesaving breakthroughs and milestones, such as:

  • Discovering the molecular mechanism behind chemotherapy resistance in ovarian cancer patients with a BRCA mutation
  • Developing additional national and international collaborations supporting women’s cancer research to discover improved methods for early detection, diagnosis, and prevention
  • Clinical trials for targeted therapies that offer hope to women battling ovarian cancer
  • Adding more samples to the over 100,000 tissues currently in our biorepository
  • Continued leadership roles in national and international consortia like The Cancer Genome Atlas Project (TCGA) and the Consortium of Investigators of Modifiers of BRCA 1 and 2 (CIMBA)
  • Efforts to identify a marker for ovarian cancer which will help practitioners more accurately identify progressive disease in women and may be a step toward a blood test for ovarian cancer

All this is possible thanks to generous community support.
