Jersey Cares Dayis the largest single day of volunteering for Jersey Cares. This event offers amazing potential for positive impact and change in communities throughout New Jersey as hundreds of participants join together to transform, renovate and reinvigorate these cities' public schools, parks and community organizations.
Jersey Cares Day is also our largest fundraiser! Like a walk-a-thon or bike-a-thon, volunteers are encouraged to raise pledges from family, friends and co-workers in honor of the service they perform on Jersey Cares Day. All money raised from this serve-a-thon supports Jersey Cares projects year round, including:
Homeless shelter and food pantry activities
Building and renovation projects
Youth mentoring and tutoring
Pet therapy and elder care
Annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive
There is no cost to participate in Jersey Cares Day; however, volunteers are asked to make a $5 donation to help cover the costs of the event, which includes a complimentary 17th Annual Jersey Cares Day Commemorative T-shirt.
FUNDRAISING TIPS We've created simple tools on this web site to make fundraising easy and fun. You can email family and friends to sponsor you using ready-made templates and automatically track your fundraising totals on your personalized webpage. Check the scrolling pledge raising honor roll on the Jersey Cares Day Fundraising homepage to see the top overall fundraisers from day to day. Here are a few tips to get you started:
Lead by example, sponsor yourself.
Set a fundraising goal for yourself. To determine your goal, make a list of people you could contact and consider how much they may be willing to contribute.
Send e-mail through your Jersey Cares Day Fundraising Webpage to tell people about Jersey Cares Day and ask for pledge money. Use the fundraising template, or create your own message. You may want to encourage sponsors to contribute a minimum amount, or leave it up to them to give what they can.
Matching gifts double your pledges! Be sure to ask your employer and your sponsors if their companies will match their donations.
Do not think of fundraising as asking for money or a loan - you are asking as an advocate for those in need.
Do not discount anyone. While you may not have talked to that high school friend for awhile, it's never too late to resume a friendship by telling them about your involvement with Jersey Cares.
Use those who are close to you as a 'mini-committee' to reach your goal. Ask them to share their networks, send out emails, or help plan a party or happy hour.
You do not need to know all of your potential donors; it's okay to accept donations from people you don't know. Just remember to thank them. By carrying their Jersey Cares Day information with them, many volunteers have received donations in bars, on the train, in elevators, their offices or apartment buildings.
Ask your boss.
Start early! There's a lot to be said for those people who get their fundraising started early so they can be ready for the competition that awaits!
Involve everyone you know. Most people find that their daily contacts supply plenty of potential donors. You'd be surprised at how many people you know, even casual acquaintances, who will support your efforts.
JerseyCares Day allows people to experience the joy of helping others vicariously through you. When you participate in Jersey Cares Day, you're improving not just the project location where you spend the day, but you also represent all those who donated to your fundraising efforts. Make sure everyone realizes that their contribution will last much longer than the 30 seconds it takes to write a check or make an online donation.
Be sure to send a thank you to your sponsors after the event with a recap of what you accomplished at your school. Send a photo of you in action to help them share the day!
