FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is Jersey Cares Day?
Jersey Cares Day is a day of true partnership and community building as 2,500 volunteers from all over New Jersey unite for the common goal of revitalizing and beautifying communities in New Jersey.

Jersey Cares Day is also a fundraiser to support all of the important work Jersey Cares does throughout the year. Much like a walk-a-thon, Jersey Cares Day is a serve-a-thon. Our participating volunteers raise pledges for the time they are contributing, making the event an inspiring way to give back to the community!

When is Jersey Cares Day this year?

Saturday, May 2, 2015

Where does Jersey Cares Day take place?

You can sign up for a specific project site when you register. Projects take place throughout New Jersey.

What types of community services will be provided on Jersey Cares Day?

Volunteers will be performing much needed tasks such as painting murals on classroom walls or in hallways, planting gardens outside entrance ways, picking up debris in parks, painting lines for various outdoors games on outdoor lots, organizing donated items, supporting the on-going recovery from Hurricane Sandy, and so much more! Check our website frequently for project site descriptions.

Who can participate in the day?

Anyone over the age of 4 (volunteers ages 4 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult and have a waiver signed by their parent/guardian). Download the waiver here, complete and bring on the day of the event or send to the Jersey Cares office in advance.

What happens if it rains?

Jersey Cares Day goes on rain or shine!  Each project has a rain contingency plan—if we can't work outdoors there will be additional inside tasks to be completed.  Please dress appropriately for the weather! If you registered for a completely outdoor project site such as a park, you will be contacted by the Jersey Cares staff with an alternate project site.

How do I register as a team?

A team is a group of friends, family, co-workers or association members who want to volunteer together.  Each team needs to pick a Team Leader who will coordinate all the details for the team on and before Jersey Cares Day.

What if I'm not part of a team? Can I still volunteer?

Yes!  Visit the Jersey Cares Day homepageselect Register and then Register as an Individual. Follow the onscreen instructions. The deadline for individual registration is Friday, May 1st.

Is there a cost or fee to participate?

There is no cost to participate, however, volunteers are asked to make a $5 donation to help cover the costs of the event (including t-shirt). Also, this is a serve-a-thon, and we encourage all participants to fundraise.

How does it work?
Jersey Cares Day is similar to a walk-a-thon. Volunteers are encouraged to ask family, friends and co-workers to pledge donations in honor of the service they do that day.

I'm volunteering my time, why am I also being asked to raise money?
Throughout the year, Jersey Cares creates meaningful volunteer projects that meet critical community needs and enable hundreds of willing people to give their time to help others. Our work would not be possible without financial support. The money raised during Jersey Cares Day supports both the great activities of the day and our impactful year round programming.

How do my friends and family make a donation?
When you register for Jersey Cares Day, you will get your very own customizable webpage and a number of easy to use tools which allow you to e-mail family, friends and co-workers. The e-mails will provide a direct link to your personalized Jersey Cares Day webpage where visitors can learn more about the event, your participation and make a donation.  Alternatively, friends and family can locate your webpage by simply clicking on the "Sponsor Volunteer" button on the Jersey Cares Day website and entering your name.

How can I see who has sponsored me?
Go to the Log-in section on the Jersey Cares Day site.  Enter the Username and Password that you received when you registered for the event. You can then view your donor list and the amounts that have been donated.
