Resources at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center

  • Clinical Trials

The Women's Cancer Program at the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute offers a wide range of clinical trials investigating the effectiveness of targeted therapies for women fighting ovarian cancer. If you are interested in learning more about our current clinical trials, you may access the Cedars-Sinai Protocol Library to search, or contact Glaucia Vasquez.

  • Division of Gynecologic Oncology

Each year, 82,000 women in the United States learn they have a gynecologic cancer. Although these cancers are often grouped together, they vary widely in their causes, risk factors, detection, treatment and chance of a cure.

  • Gilda Radner Cancer Program

Beth Y. Karlan, MD founded the Gilda Radner Hereditary Cancer Program in 1991 to focus on individuals with a family history of breast and ovarian cancers. The program contributed to research efforts that helped to identify BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 mutations. Since that time, we have expanded the program to include multiple studies that are all aimed at improving our understanding of what other factors may impact the age of onset of cancers, the effectiveness of treatments, and quality of life. Currently, we are recruiting research participants for the following programs:

    1. The Gilda Radner Program: The purpose of this program is to investigate the many factors associated with being at higher risk for cancer due to BRCA 1 and BRCA 2 alterations. All persons (women and men) with a documented BRCA mutation can enroll. Participation includes completing a questionnaire annually and providing a blood specimen if possible.
    2. The Novel Markers Trial: This trial is designed to assess the effectiveness of a new tumor marker, HE4, in combination with CA125 and ultrasound to detect early ovarian cancer in high risk patients. If you have a family history of ovarian cancer and/or breast cancer and at least one ovary, you may be eligible to participate. Participation includes blood draws every six months in conjunction with regular standard of care screening.

If you would like more information or would like to discuss our programs, please contact Hayley Russ Hayley.russ@cshs.org or visit our website.
