The 2012 “Walk in My Shoes” will mark the third annual walk across Florida led by Lauren Book and the Lauren’s Kids Foundation to raise awareness about sexual abuse and to urge those who have been abused that 'it's okay to tell.'
The 39-day, 1,500-mile journey will begin in Key West on Saturday, January 14th and end on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2012 on the steps of the Historic Capitol in Tallahassee for the Lauren’s Kids Rally in Tally at 12 noon.
The Walk in My Shoes, symbolizes a survivor’s long, painful healing journey to shed the shame, while encouraging lawmakers to support sexual abuse centers/ victims and prevent future abuse.
Due to the efforts of Lauren and those on the 2010 Walk, four legislative bills were passed in 2010 to protect sexual abuse victims; more than $190,000 in contributions were raised; more than 50 high-profile endorsements were secured with an additional 30 companies/associations and 49 local law enforcement agencies supported the campaign; and more than 75 state, national and international stories were generated.
This mission of Lauren’s Kids is to prevent childhood sexual abuse and heal survivors of past abuse. For more information on Lauren’s Kids, please visit our website at www.laurenskids.org.
