Please help us end the suffering of Cozumel's street dogs by becoming an IFAW Champion for Animals
Dear [[First Name]],
I know how much you care about animals, so I know the pictures above must be as heartbreaking for you as they are for me.
But the painful truth is that each of these dogs was picked up off the street and brought to an animal control facility. And only a few days later, when no family had come to claim them as their own, they were put to death.
You see, Cozumel is an island known for its beautiful beaches...but it's also becoming known for its neglected street dogs.
Many of the dogs are starving, infested with fleas and ticks, and suffering from eye infections and mange. They fight with buzzards for food scraps in the island's rubbish dump.
It's an incredibly sad and desperate situation, but you can change it.
[[First Name]], I have a very special team who work with me to care for animals that need us most...a group of people that I can depend on to always be there when animals like these dogs are suffering and need our help.
I think you're one of these people.
I call them my Champions for Animals. By giving a regular monthly gift, they help IFAW react at a moment's notice when suffering animals are most in need.
For just a few pennies a day, you can help us rescue a baby bear left motherless by a ruthless hunter...protect an unsuspecting elephant family from cold-hearted ivory poachers that would kill them and hack off their tusks...and help us rush to the scene of a natural disaster to get immediate food, shelter, and medical attention to injured animals.
And yes, with your monthly donation, you can help us save the street dogs of Cozumel:
- We're partnering with a local animal welfare group to conduct a massive spay and neuter program;
- We've purchased critical medical equipment and hired an extra veterinarian;
- We're educating the public on proper pet care;
- And we are treating and finding loving homes for as many dogs as possible...
Dogs like Lucy and Beano, who were brought to the shelter with 6 other puppies from the same litter. Their mother was nowhere to be found, and all the puppies suffered from terrible diarrhea, vomiting, and were infested with worms. Sadly, all 6 of their siblings wilted and died, but Lucy and Beano somehow survived. And with a lot of love and tender care, they were soon well enough to be adopted by a wonderful woman who takes them for walks on the beach and snuggles in bed with them every night.
Lucy and Beano were very lucky - but there are so many other dogs that aren't so lucky...so many other dogs that desperately need your help.
By signing up today, you can be the Champion these animals need...
Your gift truly could save a suffering animal's life.
Thank you.

Fred O'Regan
IFAW President
p.s. I was so saddened when I saw the pictures of Cozumel's dogs - so many of them looked like they could be a wonderful addition to someone's family. Please help us end the suffering of Cozumel's street dogs and animals around the world by becoming a Champion for Animals today. As a thank you, we will send you Scruffy, our little plush toy dog mascot, as a reminder of all the dogs in Cozumel that we are able to help because of you.
