Resources for Families in the Wake of the CT Tragedy

Over the past week, the autism community has joined the millions of people across the country and around the world who mourn the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy. In the wake of the tragedy in Connecticut last Friday, Autism Speaks has created some resources to help families with children on the spectrum deal with the tragedy. Autism Speaks has also responded to false media claims that autism spectrum disorders are linked to planned violence. Learn more about those efforts here.

New Family Services Community and Chapter Grants Awarded

Autism Speaks awarded 16 Family Services Community Grants and 21 Family Services Chapter Grants to advance the work of community-based organizations to expand existing programs to serve more individuals with autism, and create new programs to improve and enrich the lives of individuals with autism spectrum disorders across the United States. UN Passes New Resolution on Autism

The United Nations General Assembly unanimously passed a new resolution calling on governments to take urgent action to improve access to long-term healthcare, education, training and intervention programs for persons with autism spectrum disorders, developmental disorders, and associated disabilities. The resolution was drafted and tabled by the Mission of Bangladesh with the support of Autism Speaks. Read more and see photos.
