VCU is going dancing!!! For the 10th time in school history, the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball team is playing in NCAA Tournament. The VCU Rams play in the third round tomorrow night.

This year’s success is correlated with the success of the Ram Athletic Fund in 2009-10. As many of you know, the Shoot for 1,000 Campaign was incredible, yielding a 52 percent increase - from 821 to 1,249 - in our donor base! We thank all of you for this success, and we appreciate your loyalty and dedication.

It’s important to understand that our athletic and academic achievements have come despite limited resources. VCU ranks in the bottom third of the 12 CAA basketball schools in terms of total donors. Intrastate rivals James Madison, William & Mary and Old Dominion have 4,395, 3,185 and 2,420 donors, respectively. VCU student-athletes compete between the lines and in the classroom for their school, their teams and for you the fans. Now, we’d like to ask you to compete for them.

That’s why we’re announcing the creation of a brand-new fundraising initiative, AND ONE. The AND ONE Campaign asks, simply, that each of our current supporters sign up just one new member to the Ram Athletic Fund.

You could talk with a friend with whom you attend every game, your co-workers who talk about the Rams at the water cooler or your neighbor who is a VCU alumnus. These are the people who we’d like to ask you to get involved. We have big goals at VCU, reaching national prominence on the field and in the classroom among them, and the Rams need your help to reach them.

The Ram Athletic Fund is the lifeblood of our VCU Athletics. No matter the size of the contribution, a gift will directly impact VCU’s 260 student-athletes as well as coaches and programs. Your generous support provides our student-athletes with the necessary tools to earn degrees, win championships and become leaders.

As a current donor, you will receive an additional 25 priority points by signing up just one new member to the Ram Athletic Fund. All new donors signed up through the AND ONE program will receive two free tickets to a select men’s basketball game during the 2011-12 season. Click here to sign up or to print a pledge card.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail. Thanks for all that you do. Go RAMS!!!
