I am writing to urge you to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA). It is time for Congress to pass this vital measure to ensure that all Americans are protected from discrimination in employment based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Employment-related discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people has been and remains a pervasive problem. Studies and surveys consistently show that between one-third and one-half of all LGBT respondents have suffered employment-related discrimination.

It has been 33 years since the first bill was introduced to address this problem. Since then, state and local jurisdictions have moved to prohibit anti-LGBT discrimination. Today, over one-third of the U.S. population lives in a state or locality that prohibits discrimination against LGBT people. That said, people's job security, and the financial security of their families, should not depend on which state or city they work in. That is why it is so important you support ENDA.
