If 5,000 of us tell just 5 friends each, we will have 25,000 more signatures and stories for Executive Director Rea Carey to hand-deliver to the Census Bureau on Thursday, June 25 — and that's something that can't be ignored.

Please help us spread the word by asking your friends and family to sign the Count Our Marriages petition. Married or not, LGBT or an ally, we need every voice.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Census Bureau is considering changing course and finally counting our marriages. This is our chance. When the Task Force meets with the Census Bureau on June 25, we need to show just how important it is to include every person, every marriage and every family in the census count.

Simply fill out the form below to tell your friends to get involved. Thanks again.

I don't know if you've heard yet, but the Census Bureau has announced that they won't count legally recognized same-sex marriages in the 2010 census. In fact, they plan to go line by line erasing same-sex relationships – even our legally recognized marriages in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, Iowa, Maine, and New Hampshire.

It's time for the census to count every family. Will you take just a minute to sign this petition from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force to the Census Bureau and urge them to Count all Marriages? Click here to take action right now before Thursday, June 25 – when the Task Force’s Executive Director Rea Carey will be personally delivering our signatures, letters and stories to the Census Bureau.

The census matters. And it matters more than you can imagine.

The 2010 census will be used by Congress and federal agencies to distribute money, government resources and even representation in Congress for a decade to come. And, without your action today, it could be yet another example of our own government refusing to recognize that same-sex relationships – even those that are recognized by state law -- are comparable to those of any other couple.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Census Bureau is considering changing course and finally counting same-sex marriages. This is our chance. The Task Force will be meeting with the Census Bureau soon, and we need to show just how important it is to include all marriages in the census count. Click here to add your name.

Please, sign right now to help us make sure that the Census Bureau gets our message and starts treating the LGBT community with equal dignity and respect.

Thanks so much for your help,
