Cal State Fullerton started the new school year without a final budget from the Governor and the Legislature. This delay prevented students on the wait list from enrolling and hinders the University’s ability to offer additional sections for the most sought after courses.
While both the Governor and legislative leaders have proposed budgets that provide the CSU with $365 million in additional support, we are far from the finish line. Such an increase would allow the system to serve as many as 29,000 additional students. The timely enactment of the budget also means students can enroll this spring instead of waiting until next fall.
In these difficult budget times, the commitment to higher education shown by the Governor and legislative leaders is remarkable. Investing in CSU will create jobs and help revive California’s economy.
The legislative session is nearing its end. We have precious little time to reinforce for our elected officials that support for higher education is essential and to best serve students, university leaders must know their budget as soon as possible.
Join with us in putting our students first! Send a letter of support now to your legislators asking them to support the CSU budget level and to act quickly!
