Anger Into Action Declaration

This declaration is about showing wide public support for the fundamental rights of LGBT people. The California Supreme Court has allowed discrimination to be written into the state constitution, and we won't stand for it. We are angry that the passage of Proposition 8 was based on lies and deception, and that the right wing continues to spread hate in order to take away the fundamental rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

But we also refuse to fight lies with lies, or hate with hate. We will not give into our anger, and we will not unfairly lay blame for Prop. 8 passing. Instead, we are committed to channeling our energies into bringing about more positive change.

Stand with us against discrimination and pledge to fight until full equality is won for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people everywhere. The Anger into Action Declaration

I am angry. Angry that the California Supreme Court has allowed discrimination to be written into the state constitution. I am angry that the passage of Proposition 8 was based on lies and deception, and that the right wing continues to spread hate in order to take away the fundamental rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. I am angry that, despite recent victories in Iowa, Vermont and Maine, my fellow Americans have not yet fully embraced the fact that every loving couple -- no matter their gender or sex -- deserves the freedom to marry, and that every person is entitled to equal treatment under the law.

But I also pledge that I will not give into my anger. I will not fight lies with lies, or hate with hate. I promise to channel my anger -- all of it -- into bringing about more positive change. I will keep fighting, from this day forward until discrimination is banished from our constitutions, until every LGBT person is free to marry the person they love, and until every person has full equality.
