Arizona: UPDATE: SUPPORT Bill That No Longer Criminalizes Investigations Exposing Livestock Animal Cruelty

Name: Notification to Director of Investigation into Cruelty to Livestock
Number: HB 2587

This bill was amended before it passed the House to remove the most objectionable ag-gag provisions. This bill would no longer compel any individual in possession of a video, photograph, or other evidence of any animal cruelty to turn over the tape to officials within 5 days. Instead, it would require that the Director or his designee be notified of any investigation of an alleged violation of the livestock or poultry cruelty law. This bill begins with a statement that no one should intentionally injure livestock (which excludes “good husbandry practices used for food production”), and the revised language of the bill indicates that this legislation is about protecting livestock, not punishing undercover activists.
