Tell your MP that their voting record on animal cruelty matters.

Since 1999 Canadians, such as you, have written letters to MPs, signed petitions and taken other actions to ensure that there is effective animal cruelty legislation in Canada. MPs have been told that it is not acceptable to only increase penalties when the real issue is our courts’ inability to get convictions. Under the current legislation only ¼ of 1% of animal cruelty complaints lead to a conviction.

Has your MP listened to you and voted to oppose S-203?

You now have the opportunity to contact your MP and congratulate them on standing up for democracy and representing their constituents or to contact them and ask why they have turned their backs on their voters.

Note: If your MP is not listed they were not present at the vote.

Locate your MP's contact information here

  1. Write to your MP. Personal letters written by constituents work best. But here are some sample letters that you can use or modify.
  2. Call your MP and voice your opinion. If you need more facts about the issue please contact one of the groups listed above.
  3. Remember how your MP voted. When it’s your turn to vote in the next election vote for a politician that wants to end animal cruelty.

If your MP voted AGAINST S-203:
Send a letter to your MP to say THANK YOU, for voting against Bill S-203.

If you MP voted IN FAVOUR of S-203:
Tell your MP you are disappointed in their vote in favour of Bill S-203.

Add a few personal words to your letter to let them know how important adequate animal protection is to you!
