Letter from Director of Jimmy Fund Golf Nancy Rowe
“We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give.” This is my favorite quote by Sir Winston Churchill, and I have it prominently displayed in my office. Reading those words each morning, I am reminded of the volunteer tournament directors, committee members, event participants, sponsors, and friends who selflessly give time, resources, and hope to those affected by cancer. Jimmy Fund Golf is comprised of more than 160 annual events. In 2006, Jimmy Fund Golf was represented from coast-to-coast with events from Virginia to Washington State. Each is unique and integral to the success of the program. Here are highlights from just a few recent events that are a part of the Jimmy Fund Golf family. Share your story.
The Outback Steakhouse Charity Golf Classic was held at the Hidden Creek Country Club in Reston, Va., on Oct. 2 and raised more than $65,000 for the Women’s Cancers Program at Dana-Farber specifically supporting a project entitled “A Proteomic Approach to Breast Cancer,” which aims to develop a blood test for the early detection of breast cancer.

The Christopher S. Elliot Memorial Golf Scramble Benefiting Glioblastoma Brain Cancer Research on Oct. 9, celebrated its 5th anniversary at the Bear Creek Country Club in Woodinville, Wash. The event, played in memory of Christopher S. Elliott who lost his battle with brain cancer at the age of 41, raised $65,000. In 2005, the event was recognized by Jimmy Fund Golf for achieving a 93 percent increase in funds raised over the previous year.
The 6th Annual Kristin Fund Leukemia Foundation Annual Golf Tournament was held on Oct. 9 at the Oak Hill Country Club in Fitchburg, Mass., and raised $100,000. The event honors the memory of Kristin Amico Sesselman who lost her battle with leukemia at the age of 30.
