Ronald Reagan was president, Nintendo® was introduced to the world, and the Chicken McNugget® was added to McDonald’s menu. “American Idol” winner Carrie Underwood was born, and screen legend Gloria Swanson passed away. “Terms of Endearment” won the Academy Award, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Day became a federal holiday. 14th annual Mutual Funds Industry Awards recognize
Mutual Funds Against Cancer (MFAC)
Ritz Carlton Battery Park, New York, N.Y.
At this prestigious event, MFAC was selected as 2007’s featured charity and was recognized before 475 industry luminaries. MFAC Founder and Chairman Frank Strauss was thrilled to introduce his organization to this broader geographical audience within the financial community. A highlight of the evening was Lance Armstrong’s eloquent and powerful message delivered via video on behalf of MFAC. Following the video, Strauss presented a live auction and pledging program that raised $80,000. MFAC’s Expect Miracles Golf Classic will be held June 7 at the Pinehills and Waverly Oaks Golf Clubs in Plymouth, Mass.

Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament for Cancer Research
Lakewood Ranch and Country Club, Bradenton, Fla.
Hosted by Jean and Paul Gustafson, the tournament kicked off the Jimmy Fund Golf season by raising more than $60,000. The Gustafsons split their time between Bradenton, Fla., and Cape Cod, Mass., and this year took over direction of the event from founders Susan and Bill Moore.

The Golf Ball
Hilton Boston Logan Airport, Boston, Mass.
The 2nd annual Golf Ball raised more than $25,000 for brain cancer research. Hosted by Mike Strong, director of the Par Fore the Cure Golf Classic, the black-tie gala featured golf-themed cocktails, dinner, a silent auction, and a speaking program. The Par Fore the Cure Golf Classic and Clambake is scheduled for June 16 at the Apple Hill Golf Course in Kingston, N.H., and the Bradford Country Club in Haverhill, Mass.

3rd annual Bell and Hudson/Evergreene Golf Putt-a-thon
Evergreene Golf Center, Belchertown, Mass.
“Putters” of all ages played 100 holes of mini-golf and raised $37,000 for Dana-Farber. Each year this fun and unique event has welcomed more participants, and raised more money, due to the growing commitment of the community and local businesses to the Jimmy Fund.
