The Mark R. Ungerer Driving for the Cure Memorial Golf Tournament celebrated its 20th anniversary on July 10 by raising nearly $500,000 for Dana-Farber. More than 250 golfers enjoyed a day on the links at The International in Bolton, Mass., while paying tribute to Mark Ungerer, one of the three original organizers of the event, who lost his battle with cancer in 1995.
The 12th Annual Mutual Funds Against Cancer (MFAC) Expect Miracles Golf Classic was held on July 25 at Pinehills Golf Club in Plymouth, Mass. More than $265,000 was raised by nearly 280 golfers from the mutual fund industry bringing the event’s cumulative fundraising total to more than $1 million. MFAC Chairman Frank Strauss is taking the fight against cancer beyond the golf course and will host the 3rd Annual Expect Miracles Wine and Spirits Extravaganza on Nov. 9 at the State Room in Boston, Mass.
The Annual Frank Bille Jimmy Fund Golf Tournament celebrated its 10th anniversary on July 31 at the Andover Country Club in Andover, Mass., and is expected to raise more than $15,000 for the Jimmy Fund. Brothers Tony and Frank Bille organize the event in memory of their father Frank.
The 12th Annual Patrick Faolan McDonough Golf Classic, aka the Paddy Classic, was played in July at Wentworth by the Sea Country Club in Rye, N.H., and is expected to raise more than $20,000 for the Jimmy Fund. The golf tournament is organized by the McDonough family to honor the life of Paddy who lost his battle with leukemia at the age of two.
