Welcome to the first e-newsletter for the 20th annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai! This newsletter will be your monthly source for fundraising tips, compelling stories from our Pacesetters and top team captains, important event day details, and much more.
Registration for the 2008 Walk is now open!

2007 Review: We are very excited to announce that the 2007 Walk exceeded expectations and raised a record-breaking $6.4 million! The credit goes to you and the determination, spirit, and hard work of the 7,700 walkers who launched extraordinary fundraising campaigns and trekked along the historic marathon route.
2008 Goal: Every dollar the Walk raises is another step along the road to finding cures for cancer, and that is why we hope you’re inspired to join us again this year and help raise $7.2 million!

Raising the bar: To help reach our 2008 goal of $7.2 million, we have increased the fundraising minimum to $250 for each walker. We are confident that walkers are ready for the challenge of this small increase, and we hope it becomes a source of inspiration to reach even further in the fight against cancer.
Please note: The fundraising minimum will remain $100 for children ages 12 and younger who participate in either the Boston College 5-Mile or Boston 3-Mile.

Are you unable to make it to the Walk this year? You can still be part of the 20th annual Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai, as a “Virtual Walker!” You can complete any distance, at any time, and still support the Jimmy Fund Walk. And you can still create your own Web page and utilize all of the fundraising tools on the Walk Web site.
Please note: Virtual Walkers are those walkers who will NOT be participating in the Walk on Sept. 21, 2008, but wish to raise funds and walk their own route, on their own time.
Virtual Walkers are not required to pay a registration fee and are not responsible for the $250 fundraising minimum. Any Virtual Walker who raises $250 or more will receive an official 2008 Walk T-shirt after the event. For answers to any remaining questions about becoming a Virtual Walker, please email us at jimmyfundwalk@dfci.harvard.edu.

A mother. A brother. A colleague. A best friend. No matter who is facing cancer, you want to do everything in your power to help them. Participating in the Walk is a great way to honor a loved one’s courage while raising the critical funds needed to beat this disease. Read our walker’s inspiring stories. Why we walk.
We all have our reasons for walking. What’s yours? Share your story.

Our Pacesetters--Walkers who raise $1,000 or more-- make a tremendous impact in the fight against cancer and have contributed 70 percent of all revenue raised throughout the Walk’s 20-year history. Many have made being a Walk Pacesetter an annual tradition.
Pacesetter Chris Carlin (pictured right) has captained his Walk team for almost a decade, in honor of his sister, Pam Reddan, who was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Read the full story about how Chris is inspiring others to walk and helping the Walk reach its $7.2 million goal.
