The Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, Monroe area will hold its annual Dementia Care Conference, A Meeting of the Minds, on March 20, 2009, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Library Conference Center at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.
Professionals are invited to learn about the latest care practices and research related to Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, including a focus on staff development. Continuing education credits are available for RN's, Social Workers and Nursing Home Adminstrators. Early Registration is $60 for CEU-Professional attendees, $50 for those receiving a certificate of attendance, $40 for non-CEU attendees and $20 for students with ID. Scholarships are available for non-CEU attendees by calling 318-322-2828 to apply.
Conference keynote speaker, Robert Blackwell, Jr. Ph.D. is a former CIA analyst. While working at the CIA, Bob briefed several US Presidents and senior officials on issues relating to the former Soviet Union and Europe. During his 30 year Agency career he held a variety of management positions of increasing responsibility. Bob retired from the Agency in 2005, where he received a Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal.
Bob was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in December, 2006 at the age of 64. He has a ‘blog’ in the USA TODAY newspaper where he writes on “Living with Alzheimer’s”.
